NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE IMPORTANCE OF CREATIVITY

Creativity plays an important role in our lives, it gives us meaning, a sense of purpose, a way to heal and mend as well as connect with others. Creativity enhances wellbeing gives us space to express ourselves, process our thoughts without the need for words and I feel it is a rather magical and powerful process, which, far too often, is overlooked. We, as humans, need time and space to breathe and create without there being a need for an outcome and from this we can positively grow and thrive.

I’ve seen the power of creativity firsthand and I understand the importance and need for it. Without creativity, we can become stagnant, stuck and unable to function to the best of our ability. Given time, creativity opens the doors of the mind, it gives us a sense of freedom and self-expression without the need to force it. Creativity can enable us to feel balanced, well rounded and resilient, even in a world of chaos

Woodblock printing is a wonderful craft, it requires no artistic ability to achieve and the results are instant. I find the process of printing rather meditative, it develops a sense of calm, inner peace and happiness which we all need and the only limit is your imagination. Woodblock Printing can be a great activity to do with others, a way of creating a sense of community and togetherness, but it can also be a solitary process which can be equally important.

I run a variety of workshops which you can read more about below, but if you require something more bespoke, please do get in touch using the form below.

  • Schools

Do we really understand the importance and impact of creativity on children?

Sadly, creativity and the arts is being removed from schools with detrimental effects to children.

Now, more than ever, we need to ensure our children and young people have access to the arts.

My Experience

I have over 15 years experience working with children and young people in both schools and mental health settings. I I have always worked in roles that support and empower peopleand often, alongside this, the thread of creativity has fed into the work I do. My support and facilitating roles have given me the skills to work with a broad mix of people with compassion and care and whilst I hope I have shared my knowledge, I too, have gained a lot of wisdom from those I have worked with.

For me, creativity is a necessity, I believe it is a fundamental and important part of being human and we need the space and time to express it.

Creativity can be an important tool for self-expression, a means of working through something difficult without the need for words and ultimately a way for people to heal and mend. I have gained so much knowledge and skills working with a broad mix of people and I feel fortunate to have such rich experiences and the wisdom I have gained from the young people and adults I have worked with has been invaluable.

I studied Fine Art Printmaking at University and ended up focusing a lot on Photography as I had such a wonderful tutor which makes all the difference. A few years later, my urge to make clothing took over and I found a wonderful woman doing wonderful things to help students achieve their dreams. I studied City & Guilds Level 2 in Fashion where I learnt my pattern cutting skills and then went on to study City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Craft Skills for Creative Industries. I returned to my days of printing and had the good fortune to experience a day of Indian Block Printing in Oxfordshire which then led to a Teaching Course in Indian Block Printing which I loved. I’m now lucky enough to bring all the skills together that I’ve learnt over the years and feed it into the things I make and what I teach to those I meet.

I have an Enhanced DBS certificate to work with children, young people and vulnerable adults.
