My Experience
I have over 15 years experience working with children and young people in both schools and mental health settings. I I have always worked in roles that support and empower people and often, alongside this, the thread of creativity has fed into the work I do. My support and facilitating roles have given me the skills to work with a broad mix of people with compassion and care and whilst I hope I have shared my knowledge, I too, have gained a lot of wisdom from those I have worked with.
For me, creativity is a necessity, I believe it is a fundamental and important part of being human and we need the space and time to express it.
Creativity can be an important tool for self-expression, a means of working through something difficult without the need for words and ultimately a way for people to heal and mend. I have gained so much knowledge and skills working with a broad mix of people and I feel fortunate to have such rich experiences and the wisdom I have gained from the young people and adults I have worked with has been invaluable.
I studied Fine Art Printmaking at University and a few years later, my urge to make clothing took over and fortunately, I found a wonderful woman doing wonderful things to help students achieve their goals and dreams. I studied City & Guilds Level 2 in Fashion where I learnt my pattern cutting skills and then went on to study City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Craft Skills for Creative Industries. I returned to my days of printing and had the good fortune to experience Indian Block Printing, which then led to a Teaching Course which I loved. I’m now able to bring all the skills together that I’ve learnt over the years and feed it into the things I make and what I teach to those I meet.
I have an Enhanced DBS certificate to work with children, young people and vulnerable adults.
